Against a deep blue sky, the 14 royals ride a ferris wheel and the roller coaster. Expressions reflect unease and fear. As fireworks explode in the sky, 6 carousel animals on wheels "stampede" across the foreground, the lower register of the painting. They include a green hippocampus, a giraffe, a stork, a pink horse, an elephant, and a white rabbit. The theme is based on the artist's visit with family members to the Florida State Fair at night, with the garish midway colors and tropical evening. |
