The inspiration for these four grand pianos on scaffolds with wheels may have something to do with Fellini's Satyricon (The "museum sequence" - or simply with images moving through antiquity). The drapes, Ionic columns, and cornices are somehow Roman. The earth pigments in the paint are actually from Italy. The mottled, variegated gold leaf adds to an ancient ambience. The red pennants and the arrangement of the pianos in this setting make one think of de Chirico and the Scuola Metaphysica.
