In deeply saturated colors tinted by golden sunlight, a wing chair accompanies a colonial tea table and a Sheraton sofa. A chandelier hangs above the tea service. The serene surrealism is that these formal parlor pieces are all out in the garden, with a beach umbrella. Years ago, the artist placed this umbrella over a seated dummy in the garden for his private students to paint: Mme. Boulanger! |
