This painting represents the culmination of the two to three year trio series. It is a sunset, a Watteau-like fading of gilded opulence. The rock crystal chandelier, the elegance of the cabriole-legged chairs and curvilinear instruments, as well as the luxuriant palms, set against the geometric squares and rectangles…evoke the majesty of music created for aristocratic pleasure, a symbiosis of nature and the esthetic “artifice” of the French baroque. |
