To commemorate Gasparilla 2004, the artist painted this to place in the gallery window during the event. An adherence to the compositional geometric grid differentiates it from earlier versions of Gasparilla, going back to 1993. The minarets of Tampa’s most distinctive landmark rise out of the water around the “Jose Gaspar.” The artist comments that months after he had painted this, he saw that the ship itself had the shape of a minaret! This painting is now in the Raymond James corporate collection in Florida.
