Although related to several biblical paintings of “Rebecca at the Well,” the artist chose not to specify this small watercolor as to personages involved. In an almost Rembrandt mode, two women draw water from a well, while a couple engage in conversation on the right. Domed and turreted architecture suggests a Middle Eastern setting, and stars appear above the buildings and palm trees. |
