Like a theatrical set on wheels in a Fellini film, Henry B. Plant’s Tampa Bay Hotel takes on a surreal aspect. The white of the minarets against the deep grays and turquoise paraphrase the summer storms, where the silver domes stand out dramatically against the sky. The inspiration comes from the fact that Plant actually used iron from his dismantled narrow gauge railway to strengthen the brick structure.
