"Impasto layers of “Maine” colors are inscribed with palette knife lines which augment the rectilinear rhythm of this small painting. The subdued colors make the reds and cobalt blue quite vivid. Somehow, the center appears as a doorway, and the light areas seem to indicate an interior space. I have always wanted to paint in a barn in Maine in the summer; that is probably why the studio was modeled on a New England barn!" |
