"When I started the Blue Emerald series (not knowing, of course, that it would be a series, or that I would be working on it for several years), the sea entered into almost every painting. As many of them were purchased, I missed them, and had to do this painting in “memory” of two of my favorite earlier ones. These blues and greens, taken from every sea and ocean I have ever seen… the Baltic, the Aegean, the Adriatic, the Atlantic, and the Pacific. In the lower left part of the painting the geometric figures of a man with a hat and a little boy emerged. Could this signify how much I want our boys to experience the vastness and inspiration our shore, sea, and sky?" |
