Because an artist has to be flexible in meeting the needs of his patrons and galleries, he sometimes ends up doing things he never would have thought of. One of the gallery’s clients loved an earlier “cross traffic” painting, but the high reflectivity of the gold leaf posed a problem in their home. "So I had to invent a technique using paint to “imitate” gold leaf, as if the gold leaf were being photographed for printing". The painting ended up with its own identity and individuality, which underlines how unique each painting is.
