The palette of early 2005, with strong earth colors, continued in this painting of irregularly places rectangles of gold leaf. Something quite medieval came out of it, beginning with the very elongated king and queen in the center. Around them are various symbols: an angel, a domed building, a wheeled cart, an Old Testament scene, a vine with turquoise leaves, a game, a map…. "When I had painted a religious geometric (commission) which was given to a temple by a group of members who were studying the Torah, I did extensive research. One book was on the Jews in Poland in the early 19th century. It touched me deeply. Eastern Europe and Russia had changed so little for centuries, and I think this painting voices ancient reverential traditions".
