"When one of my most favorite American Indian paintings sold, I knew I had to paint another one to fill that empty place in my heart. Of course, it was entirely different from anything previous, and anything since. Again, it spoke to me of the Iroquois. I didn’t think, I just painted; but when it was finished, it made me think of the Iroquois longhouses, where food was cooked and served all day". And around those fires stories and history must have been passed on from generation to generation. The reds in this painting are so fire-like that they almost glow, as when you blow on an ember.
